Select Left or Right Nostril
1) Use your hand to close either your left or right nostril and then take several breaths.
2) Close the opposite nostril in the same way and then take several breaths.
3) The nostril through which breathing was easiest most likely has a wide nasal cavity. Patients who breathed easily through the right nostril should select a right Nastent, while patients breathing easier through the left should select a left Nastent.
If using a nasal cavity aeration meter to directly measure the degree of aeration, select the nostril with the smallest resistance value (pa/cm/second).
Select Nastent Type for Initial Insertion
For first insertion, select a Nastent with a length of “145” and a hardness of “soft”. The product number for a Nastent with these specifications is shown below.

Nostril Length Hardness Prod. No. Right 145 Soft 30 Left 145 Soft 36 Patients who have already used Nastent should check the type of the device they used. If there was no problem with prior use, select the same type as the basis for fitting.
Each type has its own product number. Please view the table to determine left/right usage, size, and hardness.
Insert Nastent
1) Open the Nastent package. Check that the device surface is not scratched or deformed. Give both the package and the tube to the patient.
2) Instruct patients to insert Nastent gently. Remind patients to stop inserting once they feel the tip has reached near the uvula.
3) Confirm that the patients progress and insure that they are not feeling abnormal discomfort.
4) Once the tip the patients tells that the tip has reached near the uvula, ask patient to open mouth so that you can conform that it is inserted tell the proper length.

2 By opening the package as shown above you will be open with out getting the lubricant on your hands.

3 Insert with a vertical angle toward the face.

4 4) When the patients feel the tip has reached near the uvula, have the patient stop inserting and check if properly inserted.
Choose the most suitable Nastent
1) Instruct patient to stop insertion once they feel the tip of the devise has reached near their uvula. Them have patient open their mouth so, that you can confirm if the tip is visible and inserted until proper position.
2) In case the tip is not visible, have them insert further more or take devise half way out and insert once again.
3) Once you confirm that the tip is visible and inserted until proper length, measure the left over length of the nose clipper. The nose clipper it self is 12mm.
4) After measuring have patient take out the devise. Them calculate 145 minus the left over length to determent proper length.

Incase Nastent has no effect
Incase the patients complains or the doctors desires that Nastent patients is using at the time, there are other options as well. There two types of hardness and six type of length for each side and hardness. Please try and determine which size and hardness is most suitable or if the patients eligible to use Nastent or not.
Instructions to Patient
Be sure to refer to the up-to-date instructions sheet supplied with Nastent Classic. Instruct the patient when prescribing Nastent:
・ Use of Nastent may cause an allergic reaction, infection, recurrent or persistent bleeding, nasal tissue damage, or nasal septal tissue damage.
・ Keep the specified fitting period of time.
・ Take a regular examination by a doctor without respect to presence of subjective symptoms.
・ Take a medical examination immediately whenever there is a feeling of discomfort.
If Nastent with defects such as a damage should be used or it should be damaged during use, take a medical examination immediately whenever there is a feeling of discomfort.

Notes on Fitting
Read and store instructions sheet
Instruct the patient to read the instructions sheet thoroughly to use Nastent safely and to consult the doctor if he or she has any questions concerning an expression or contents of the instructions sheet. Instruct the patient to keep the instructions sheet in a safe place and make it available for reference at any time.
Necessity of regular examination
Since a fault such as a flaw to the nasal mucosa might exist although the patient does not feel any discomfort, instruct the patient to take a regular medical examination whether or not he or she is experiencing a problem.
Notes on going on a trip or traveling abroad
Instruct the patient to prepare extra pieces of Nastent before a travel against a damage or loss. Also instruct to take a medical examination at a local medical institute when the patient is going on a long travel.
